Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Pawse ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. Pawse is operated by Codexia. Pawse is an exercise-based app blocker: it helps you spend less time on distracting apps by asking you to complete a short exercise before unlocking them. The app is designed to require as little data as possible. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal contact information to use the app.
1. Your Camera Stays on Your Device
To count your exercise reps (such as squats and push-ups), Pawse uses your device's camera together with Apple's on-device pose detection. This is the most important thing to understand about Pawse and your privacy:
- The camera feed is processed entirely on your iPhone. It is analyzed in real time to detect your body position and count reps.
- No video or photos are ever recorded, saved, or uploaded. Pawse does not store camera footage and does not transmit it anywhere — not to us, and not to any third party.
- The only thing that results from a workout is the rep count and the screen time you earned, which stays on your device.
Camera access is used solely for this purpose. You can review or revoke camera permission at any time in your device's Settings.
2. Information We Process
Pawse works with an anonymous account that is created automatically on your device. We do not collect information that personally identifies you. The app processes the following limited data:
- Anonymous identifier — an anonymous account ID created on your device, used to operate the app, keep your settings consistent, and deliver your subscription. It is not linked to your real-world identity. Basic technical details such as your app version, language, platform, or time zone may be processed to run the service.
- Your blocking choices and app settings — the apps or categories you choose to block, your exercise preferences, rep targets, and similar settings. These are stored on your device. Because of how Apple's Screen Time works, the specific apps you block are represented by private system tokens; Pawse cannot see the names or contents of the apps you select.
- Progress data — your rep counts, streaks, and screen time earned, stored on your device so you can track your progress.
- Usage analytics — anonymous events about how the app is used are sent to our analytics provider so we can understand what works and improve the app. These include actions such as completing an exercise (exercise type, rep count, duration), viewing the paywall or completing a purchase, using an emergency unlock, and encountering a shield. Where an app name is available to the system for a blocked app, it may be included so we can understand which apps people most want help with. These events are tied only to your anonymous identifier, not to your real-world identity.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription and which plan, so the app can unlock premium features. Purchases are processed by Apple and our subscription provider; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
- Push notification token — if you enable notifications, a device token is used to deliver support replies. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
3. Screen Time & App Blocking
Pawse's blocking is built on Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity) frameworks. When you grant Screen Time access, Pawse can display a shield in front of the apps you choose. This all happens on your device through Apple's system. Apple's design keeps your selection largely private — Pawse works with opaque system tokens rather than a full list of your apps, and we never see what you do inside the apps you block. In some cases the system may provide the display name of a blocked app (for example, to show it on the shield), and where that name is available it may be included in the anonymous analytics described in Section 2.
4. Third-Party Services
Pawse uses the following third-party services, which process limited data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) — creates your anonymous account, processes anonymous usage analytics, and delivers support notifications.
- RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. RevenueCat processes an anonymous purchase identifier and subscription events to manage your entitlement; it does not receive your name or payment card details.
- Apple — App Store purchases and subscription billing, and the on-device Screen Time and Vision frameworks that power blocking and rep counting.
- Hark — powers the in-app support chat so we can respond to your questions.
5. Advertising & Tracking
Pawse does not show ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) and do not sell your data.
6. Support Messages
If you contact us through the in-app support feature or by email, we process the messages you send and your anonymous user ID so we can reply and provide support. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your messages.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
We keep the limited data described above only as long as needed to operate the app and your subscription. Your settings, blocking choices, and progress are stored on your device and are removed when you delete the app. If you would like us to delete the anonymous account and any usage data associated with your installation, contact us at the email below and we will assist you.
8. Children's Privacy
Pawse is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Since Pawse does not collect personal identifiers, we may need additional information to locate the anonymous data tied to your installation. Contact us using the details below to make a request.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
